In Christian Morality, Catholics Have Pedophile Priests, Protestants Have Hobby Lobby

It is a long and dark tale, but the Green family who own Hobby Lobby have been found to be crooks on behalf of Christianity. The Green's net worth is estimated at over $5 billion. When they launched an effort to develop the "Bible Museum," a facility they hoped would present the history of  Christianity on a quality level similar to those of the Smithsonian, there was a bottomless pit of money.

The tale of the Bible Museum is very long and complicated. At the heart of it is something simple, greed. The Greens put their faith in a renowned professor who held the ultimate perch of integrity. He was to assemble their collection of papyrus from the centuries following the alleged time of Jesus. Their mission was to document a trail of Bible papyrus dating back to Jesus. They had $5 billion and everyone knew this.

The renowned professor left a good paying position in the U.S. to go to Oxford which had the largest collection of ancient papyrus in the world. Oxford and the professor envisioned publications that would rock the academic world. This was the secular world of science and not that of advocating any religion.

Eventually, the professor took on side positions including working for the Greens. His pay from the Greens was equal to his professor salary. Along the way he learned back-channel sources of papyrus documents. There was a world market in buying and selling this material. The Greens felt confident their collection was being accurately and truthfully evaluated for display in their Bible Museum.

Along the way the professor, now making extraordinary amounts of money, made some purchases of papyrus himself. He judge the material to be earlier, better for the Christian story, than any other. The Greens thanked their lucky star they had the opportunity to buy the material from the renowned professor.

But, there was a conflict of interest. The professor was both selling at a profit this papyrus and being the judge of its date and authenticity.  The material turned out not to be what the professor had claimed. Said renowned professor was terminated by the Greens and Oxford.

The Greens now claim they were the victims. But, they had $5 billion. They had more than enough money to double check, even triple check, the authenticity. What got in the way of rational thinking was religious zeal--wanting to show the world Christianity is something more than a few far fetched notions.

There is a lesson in the Bible Museum.
