Christians are Protected From the Coronavirus

The Bible, book of Psalms Chapter 91, tell us that those who believe and pay their tithes walk around with a shield protecting them from the virus. Those reading this who qualify can relax.

This is according to a preacher who is spreading this message--it is appearing on Christian websites. This is hopeful news to tithing Christians because they will not have to wear those ugly masks.

While preaching in his New Zealand megachurch Pastor Brian Tamaki pointed out that God will protect Bible believing, Jesus loving, Holy Ghost filled and tithing Christians. They will be protected from epidemics, pestilence and famine. He challenged those who were skeptical of this teaching saying it is right there in their Bibles.

Another New Zealand preacher from the state church of New Zealand criticized Tamaki saying people should follow the precautions advised by government.

It is noteworthy how often God does not protect as promised. There is a picture going around the internet of VP Pence praying with the committee in charge of administering programs to contain Coronavirus. The text of the prayer is not available. I would be surprised if the pray did not contain the words, "Don't let the Coronavirus into our country." Of course, God will ignore such a prayer.

Then there are the snake handlers who pray God will protect them against the snakes. One in a while a preacher dies of snake bite. This, even though I have read they always feed the snakes prior to snake handling to reduce the impulse to strike.

Driving across the country I have seen a sign installed in rural crop fields. The sign says, "Prayer Works."

I've yet to see prayer help anyone or anything. Especially, it will not protect anyone from Coronavirus.

  1. So far, the coronavirus has killed less than a dozen people in the US. The flu has killed about 18,000 this season.

For those who read Psalms without a theological education, expecting one thing but receiving another, I would suggest you read a bit deeper and try to understand the Psalms. The Bible is not for amateurs. Seek out the wise teachers and pray.

Regardless of the death that awaits us all, the wise person, the believer, need not fear it because his reward awaits him.

  2. Then there is that cult leader in Soul so. Korea that claims he is an Angle sent by Jesus. Defying government attempts to contain the virus. Sounds like he is up on charges for allowing the spread of the virus in his large group.

    1. Little helper--A long time back, we had a short discussion about Roger E. Olson. Christian Post used to carry his blog. Now it is carried on the Pathos site. Me recollection (I may be incorrect) is that I asked you why he was all about. Your response was he seemed different and you did not know where he was coming from. Anyway, I have started looking at what he writes on Pathos. His latest one and his comments in the comment section reveal some of what he is about. I'm not advocating or criticizing him, just observing and thought you might find it interesting as well.

    2. Jon; Interesting yes, He does have some valid points. However, not much to do with that bunch in So Korea.
He is wrestling with the changes of meanings of words. I didn't see he mentions the root origin of evangelical ; " Evangel" to share the word of salvation through the Christ. How one uses the word as a noun is to change the meaning. Many words used today have different meanings from the original. cp. "liberal" to mean many, much, broad" as in education. Not a political movement. "Gay" as happy, carefree,. I have mentioned a book in the past, entitled "The Conservative Reformation". Not so much to do with a reformation, but the word, "conservative" meaning stagnant, and the word "reformation" as active change. The purpose was to include both with the resulting tension between the two to form something alive with objectivity and responsibility. All the post reformation of 1517, groups lean towards the active change ;(radical) without the tempering element of the "conservative". You could say; "reinventing the wheel". The result in many instances is beyond radical, and cult like, with the cult of personality leadership. I need not mention them, but New York, Utah, Waco, Guiana, and now So. Korea should suffice. Of course, there are levels of "radical", and "stagnant". The less one knows / understands, and is objective, the more one becomes vulnerable, including the changing meaning of the words used.

    3. Interestingly, that book was written in the late 1800's. It is more relevant now than when first written.

  3. Today, The state of New York issued a cease and desist order to Jimmy Baker for selling Silver Water for a cure of coronavirus. Praise the Lord. (PTL.) Only takes 12 hours to be free from disease.

Time for a Gun Smoke marathon featuring a snake oil cure. First you get rid of the snake.

  4. Helper--"Jim Baker for selling Silver water"

I saw that too. I'm guessing that if he plays the "religious liberty" card he will be allowed to keep selling it in New York and everywhere else.

    1. I don't think that will work. Fraud is fraud, and he spent time in prison for fraud.

    2. That is, if baker doesn't cease and desist. I suspect he will comply, and claim being discriminated against. I watched him and his showmercial a month ago for about ten minutes. Smarmy comes to mind. I can name a few others that have the same qualifications. Feeding on the desperate and vulnerable.
