What Causes a Person's Same Sex Attraction



Since day one people have wondered why some people are attracted to the same sex while others are attracted to the opposite. It has often been pointed out it does not matter why this happens or even that it does happen. The curiosity is driven by the view it should be prevented and it we know why it happens we could figure out how to change people with same sex attraction.

The prevailing view for decades was that same sex attraction in men was caused by a domineering mother. One can assume the origin of this theory was that women are to blame for all kinds of things including homosexuality. We, exactly, is a "domineering" mother? Is any mother who holds and expresses opinions domineering?  And, what then causes female same sex attraction? Is that a domineering mother also?

There has been a theory that teenagers "search" for their sexual identity, might be uncertain are it and are vulnerable to suggestions. There is no basis for this theory either.

The link article reflects a broad study of the issue and found there is no reason to believe sexual identity is caused by any social variables. That is, neither the mother nor a child's peers cause a person's sexual identity.

There have been various claims there are physical variables that cause homosexuality. As I recall a researcher claimed to have found characteristics in the brain as a cause. That study went to dust also because there was no way to determine is the brain characteristic was a cause or effect.

The only consistent and reoccurring finding is we do not know why there is same sex attraction. I suppose some of the search for a cause is driven by the religious belief same sex attraction is a sin.

If we could all agree it doesn't matter which sex people are attracted to the sooner we could focus on more important issues.

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era.
