In Your Face Support for Abortion is Coming


One compliment you can give anti abortion operatives is they have been successful in attaching a negative connotation to abortion. Abortion has become something uncomfortable to talk about.

Abortion is similar to the gay issue in this way. For who knows how long being gay was shameful. Gay people kept this part of themselves hidden and so did their friends and families. According to what I have read, the Reagan's had close friends who were gay. Every Sunday morning two men, prominent in show business circles, put on a brunch at their home in the Hollywood area. Celebrities of all kinds dropped in the mingled. Almost always it included "Ronnie" and Nancy. But, when the gay issue came up in politics, President Reagan always disapproved. There was a wink wink understanding between himself and the large Hollywood gay community where he was well liked. Nancy championed a solution to AIDS.

Abortion is in about the same place today. Self righteous moralists have made it a topic women are supposed to be so ashamed of they never admit it in public. An effort is underway to change that. Many kinds of merchandise is now for sale publicizing and affirming there is no shame in abortion. There is a gold plated necklace with the word "abortion". I was just at a popular T shirt store in the downtown and saw a coffee table type book with pictures and testimony of women who have experienced it. "T" shirts came be purchases which say, "Ask me about my abortion. "

The path followed by advocates of abortion rights is identical to the path followed by gay rights. What was unthinkable by gay bashers 20 years ago was that homosexuality would be normalized. It happened.

It appears the same is happening with abortions.

    Celebrating immortality and depravity. Great merchandising tactic if your target audience is extremely small. I didn't see one pro-anal sex or pro-murder t-shirt, necklace, bracelet, or handbag all day. The only thing remotely close to what you suggest is the anti-Trump sign at Jacque's Garage in Moorhead.

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era.
