Christian Colleges Must Get Ready to Lose

There is a spate of gay/trans issues in Christian colleges. These are always about a student or faculty member coming out while the college administration says it cannot tolerate such sinners.

Students and faculty almost always support the outed person. Administrators give them the pink slip. As the link points out, the colleges will lose.

The links tells what I have been saying here for a long time. Elementary teachers teach tolerance. They tell students about other ways of thinking and to accept ideas different than their own. I have sat in these classes with my grandchildren and seen teachers refer to various websites that explain these differences while the students locate the information on their laptops.

Students are demonstrating, administrators are lecturing them on their improper ideas of acceptance. In time, students will be doing the lecturing.

I would guess the administrations' positions are not strengthened by the shrinking enrollment at small expensive colleges. If any of these small places loses, say, 10 students revenue drops by well over $100,000. That is one college position, modest salary plus fringe benefits.

The time is coming, I predict, when some celebrity from the evangelical academic community, like a Jerry Falwell, Jr., to announce one of two solutions to their losing position on gay students and faculty. One solution goes like this, "I've been re reading the Bible and see this gay issue in a different light. In the New Testament Paul did not clearly condemn homosexuality. What he said is indecisive. In the Old Testament it is mixed in with all kinds of other things called sins in those days, eating the wrong foods, fabrics and whatever. Best we just move along."

The other is, "I've decided we have been mistaking in removing gay students and faculty from our Christian environment. Better they remain here so we can have a positive Christian influence on them."

Either of these would work. Both would keep badly needed revenue flowing.
