Catholic Bishops Play the Power Game

Before a recent conference of Bishops in Baltimore, the Pope issued a statement saying, in effect, there are many issues before you. Treat them all with the seriousness they deserve. This includes poverty and global warming.

After the conference the Bishops concluded global warming and poverty are not urgent issues. The "preeminent" issue is abortion, they said.

Sometimes those who comment about my blog say I spend too much time talking about the rights of women to obtain abortions. My response is always that it is Catholic Bishops and right wing Protestants who spend too much time talking against abortions. If they would stop trying to regulate women's lives the world would be a better place.

After the conference, the Bishops droned on about the meaning of their word "preeminent." They were not disagreeing with the Pope, they said, by using that word. All the Pope's issues are important said the Bishops.

It's disturbing to think people without much money gave money to the Catholic Church so Bishops could attend a conference like this. The Pope knew before hand what the Bishops would say afterwards. The Bishops themselves knew what they would say. There was no reason pay airfare and hotels for such a worthless event.

The difference between the Pope's goals for the conference and those of the Bishops is control. Global warming and poverty are issues of releasing billions of people from the control of their circumstances. It is making the case for the common good.

The Bishops, however, focus on power and control of women.

  1. Thank God for the wonderful leadership given by these Bishops. Pope Francis has many questionable and some possibly heretical things to say.

Godly men treat women such that abortion is not even a question. Abortion is a tool of the wicked man. It springs from a lust not rooted in love.
