Bible Answer Man is Now Shunned

The public figure known as "Bible Answer Man" is a controversial radio talk show host. When he was a right wing Protestant he railed at various other conservative branches of the faith as being heretical. Then, recently, he surprised his listeners and many in his circle of believers when he converted to the branch called Eastern Orthodox. He now feels he has found the true version of the faith.

His son described growing up deep in a faith which was always arguing fine points of the Bible and theology. He said it was not unlike sports talk radio where there is an army of experts each diagramming plays and second guessing coaches and quarterbacks. Each side, and there are many sides, feels it has found the ultimate truth.

Bible Answer Man now feels this sport of arguing scripture is less important than living a good life. He has had a precarious bout of cancer and perhaps sees his old life as less important.

As we approach the end of 2019 we will be hearing about the "best" this and that of the year. Often these are subjective things involving the arts, "best song" or "best news story."

Christianity is like that, a form of art that many think is based on something that is the ultimate truth and not subjective. Maybe there could be an award for "most truthful interpretation of the Bible's meaning in 2019." Of course there would need to be a different award in 2020 that might contradict the one this year.

Many of Bible Answer Man's best friends and closest colleagues have told him they can no long associate with him either professionally or personally. That is because he has abandoned the truth of his old Protestant circle and embraced the Eastern Orthodox branch. I guess associating with him now would put their souls in danger for the hereafter.

I don't see any evidence that there is a God or gods. So far as anyone knows, the Bible was written by humans for their own purposes and there is no heaven or hell.

It's time for pumped up believers to cool down and admit the entire faith, including their own dearly loved branch, is simply a tall tale.

  1. For a man who has often said that his disdain for Christianity is the Faith's insistence on enacting law based on Christianity, you spend a great deal of time disparaging Christianity because of individual sin or inconsistency.

If a man spent a great deal of time disparaging old girlfriends on a daily blog, people would call him obsessed or a borderline lunatic. He might even find a restraining order slapped on him by one of his old girlfriends.

    1. Matt November 26 @ 5:54 PM: You, of course, didn’t mean if laws were enacted based on Christianity the atheist who routinely disparaged a Christian individual on a blog would likely be subjected to a restraining order. Am I in error stating Christians offer only the pity of the morally superior to the infidel or godless and hold no bias except as challenging targets for conversion?

    2. Matt--"...people would call him obsessed or a borderline lunatic."

People might use that term as well for others who keep reading and commenting on a blog they dislike.

    3. Jon: Posting on your blog by me is sporadic. Nonetheless, the reason I do it is to evangelize. I think your heart is very hardened to Christ. But there are others here who are posters and some who are just observers (my guess). Their hearts may not be as hardened. Enjoy your evening. Remember, God loves you.

    4. Matt "I think your heart is hardened to Christ."

The standard Christian view, originating in the Bible, is that if a person is skeptical of the Bible's propaganda, there is something wrong with him/her. In this case the "hardened heart." There never seems to be anything wrong with those who believe in, talk to and hear response from an invisible being.

  2. I'll wager that you would feel quite lonely at the next Freethinker's party if you converted to Catholicism or Lutheranism or whatever.
