Christian Right: Trump's Entry into Politics was "Divinely Inspired"

Ralph Reed, a well known Christian author and entrepreneur, will publish a book next April which will claim Christians are obligated to support Trump's reelection. His group will spend $15 million and have 500 employees.

Even though the President's moral standards are lower than most Christians, Christians have a duty to support him, Reed will say. The reason is that Trump's opposition will be worse.

This kind of endorsement clearly establishes right wing Christianity exclusively with the Republican Party. It says the conservative religious community will support any Republican Presidential candidate who is anti abortion and gay rights. The quality of the candidate has no role in the endorsement.

A blanket endorsement of this kind has its risks. If Trump were to be badly beaten it would signal that anti abortion and anti gay are not popular topics. In addition, endorsement by Ralph Reed is not something candidates will want in the future.

Noteworthy, too is that Reed thinks Trump's political career was divinely inspired. This will draw favorable attention is he wins. If he loses the role of the divine will be sent to the back of the line.

The old cliche about politics is that it is all about economics. Reed wants to correct this. In his view Presidential politics is all about abortion and gay rights.

Politics is full of surprises. No doubt 2020 will be no exception.

  1. Notwithstanding the fact that anyone's endorsement carries little weight among voters, the esary refutation of your claim is simply the 2016 general election won by Donald Trump.

According to your logic it was a repudiation of all that Hillary Clinton stood for, e.g. pro-abortion, pro-big government, anti-military, high taxes, etc.

Whether Trump wins or loses in 2020 does not mean the abortion cause, the transgenderism cause, the high taxes cause, the illegal immigration cause or any cause is forever won or lost.

Ever since Bill Clinton won election the first time, each President has been re-elected and served 8 years. In that time, the country has switched from a Democrat (Clinton) to a Republican (Bush) to a Democrat (Obama) to a Republican (Trump) presidency. The last VP to win election as President following his President's last term was GHW Bush.

The Democrats are waging a scorched earth campaign, hoping to convince the American people that the President is the guilty party. Judging by President Trump's campaign rallies, he should win a second term in office.

I also imagine that if you asked 100 random people if they knew who Ralph Reed was, they would probably guess he was an NFL receiver (Jordan Reed or Josh Reed), a retired NBA player (Willis Reed), or a film critic (Rex Reed). Perhaps those in nursing homes would think it was Donna Reed's husband. Actually, 1 in 100 people might guess he was a Christian Coalition guy. Most would have no clue.
