Trump Says He is "The Chosen One." He Is Among Many

Some Christian pundits are demanding Trump apologize for saying he is the "chosen one." Technically, he was referring to being a leader in some political issue. He may not even have known he was using religious language. But, it's ok to assume whatever we wish so let's assume he was using the term in a religious sense as in, "I was chosen by God."

Is there something offensive or wrong with making that claim? Jesus is supposed to have made the claim and for 2,000 years he has been given a pass on any third party verification he was in fact the chosen one.

We're in the political season and politicians are making claims about themselves. One claimed she had a substantial native American American heritage. Another claim African American heritage. Others say they experience first hand this or that. In every case the press or opponents follow the trail to see if these personal claims are truthful.

I suppose everyday somewhere an atheists points out there is no third party verification of the Resurrection, Jesus claim to have heard from God or a world wide flood. Seldom are these challenges reported. Perhaps claims in the Bible are too far out to bother refuting. Or, maybe believers buy too many groceries so grocers will stop advertising.

Whatever the reason political claims are fact checked, the Bible is not. Children are taught these not verified stories as if they were absolutely true when they should be taught as cultural myths.

Trump, like many kings and dictators in the past, has made a claim of divinity. If believers are consistent they will say, "Prove he is not." They say that about the Bible right here on this blog.

  1. "Some Christian pundits are demanding Trump apologize for saying " I am the chosen one." Isn't that special. Trump, the prince of political incorrectness, adored by most conservative Christians, is taking heat for religiously incorrect speech. They will quickly hold their noses, forgive his faux pa, and return to polishing his golden halo. Politically he is their "chosen one". But Trump asking for forgiveness? Are they prepared to wait until hell freezes over? So Jon you are quite safe in saying The Donald has made a claim of divinity.
