The Bible was Wrong About the Edomites

In the Old Testament, the Edomites are viewed as slow thinking. The Book of Obadiah predicted the Edomites would be outsmarted and hardly know what happened to them when God's favorite groups attacked.

There was a group thought to be what the Bible refers to as Edomites about 1000 BCE. There was lots of fighting among the groups in the area that is today Israel and the surrounding areas.

Those who wrote the Bible later needed to portray the enemies of the Jews as inferior people who worshiped inferior gods. One such inferior group were the Edomites. In the Bible God warns the Edomites smarter people will fool them and take everything.

Recent excavations believed to be of an Edomite community show the group was actually very advanced for the time. They, along with the Egyptians, invented a faster and more efficient way to make copper which was to go to metal at the time.  Perhaps as a reward for being advanced and for worshiping a different god, God smote the Edomites.

God smiting people is among the funniest parts of the Bible. Groups that do parody of the Bible on the internet have God smiting liberals, atheists and Jews. I would guess if you visited a Christian parody site today you would learn the God smote Nancy Pelosi last week for starting Impeachment proceedings.

The old saying is that history is written by the winners. The Jews were successful for quite a while and we got the Old Testament and their god from them. They also left bad impressions of other groups which we can take with a grain of salt.

    Off topic a bit but why is atheism forced on the Chinese people by its government? If atheism is so enlightened, why would it be necessary to force it on people?

    Let's list your assumptions.

    (1) The Old Testament is accurate and the Edomites are viewed as slow thinking by someone or some group.

    (2) The Old Testament is accurate the Edomites would be outsmarted.

    (3) The people who wrote the Bible later needed to portray the enemies of Jews as inferior.

    (4) The God you don't believe in warns the Edomites.

    (5) Recent excavations believed to be of Edomites prove them to be very advanced. As proof, it was their ability to make copper the "go to" metal at the time.

    (6) Smiting people is funny.

    Atheists just have problems with people having belief in Christ.

The Religious Capitol Invaders May Yet Win

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era.
