Both Pro Choice and Anti Abortion Groups are Both Driven by Economics

Anti abortion activists don't live, at least intellectually, in the real world. They pretend they can separate it issue of a fetus life from the economics the mother or mother and father face. In the real world the economics of the mother/father and the fate of the fetus cannot be separated.

But, it is worse than that. Anti abortion activists do not live in the real world when then talk of outlawing abortion. They pretend that if abortions were against the law the government would prosecute women the same way it prosecutes murders now. In the real world there are so many abortions it is not conceivable law enforcement could even make a dent in the number. This becomes even more impossible as drug induced abortions become more common. They are more difficult to detect and will cost more to prosecute.

If there were no economic limitations things would be altogether different. A pregnant teen age woman would be given enough money to raise a child, have child care, attend college and pursue the career of her choice. Many would give birth. In the real world, raising a child is so expensive and  abortion so cheap the choice is made easily. Anti abortion advocates think they can separate to two issues, the life of the fetus and the economics of raising a child. The real world is something different.

The real world is also absent to anti abortion activists when they consider the budgets of law enforcement agencies who would be given the task of enforcement. In every country which has outlawed abortion there is very little enforcement. That is because the number of abortions swamps the budgets of law enforcement. The number of abortions is not changed by laws against it. In countries where abortion is outlawed, only a trickle of cases are prosecuted. Those are against women who are poor and cannot hire good lawyers to defend them.

Both abortions and enforcement of laws against abortions are products of the economics involved.

  1. The pro-life movement is founded in religious faith that God is the author of life and that Man has no right to snuff out innocent human life. Economics has nothing to do with the pro-life movement.
