The Origin of Life Debate Makes Progress

That God said a word or breathed to start life continues to be taught in Christianity. Other religions have similar silly notions. All the while science moves on figuring out how the first living cells began. They do not have the complete answer but they know a lot about what had to have happened. The circumstances that needed to be present to make it happen are being figured out.

There is evidence that in prehistoric time humans believed various phenomenon were magic. One these was speech. If for most of human history people communicated with a sign language or grunts and groans, the use of a language to express thoughts would be a feat like going to the moon. Perhaps the passage God said a word and magic happened came from ancient beliefs about words.

Breath would be also mysterious and magical. Before humans figured out sex caused babies they might have thought breath impregnated women as in the tale of the holy spirit's breath making Mary pregnant.

Of the 250,000 years of human existence, most of it was lived in ignorance about these things. For most of our history we humans had standards of living and knowledge not much above animals.

Left without an answer has been the original living cell. Where and how did the first life come about. As the decades past, more has been learned about the origin of the first life.

Much is known about the elements present before life. Known too is what was needed to bring some elementary kind of life into these elements. What was needed was available.

Heat is one thing that can cause chemical change. Heat has been available from underground forces.

Electrical charge helps as well. Violent lightening as been on earth forever.

It appears scientists will be able to produce something living from something not living in the coming years. When it happens it will demonstrate creating life can be done without a god.

    2. Have to admit it does look like Gore.

    3. Maybe it's the flaring from his $ 2,400.00 a month carbon footprint gas and electric bill.

    4. Reports are; he has made improvements on his 40 room shack, not counting the 8 built in out houses down there in Tennessee since the original reporting.

  3. So, Al Gore lives high on the hog, preaches energy conservation and puts huge amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. And, Paul Erlich (sp) predicted the world would be swamped with starving people by now. Does this prove there is no issue, that we should ignore all evidence?

  4. "It's your picture." In that case I can say with confidence the person in the picture is not Al Gore. It's not identified in the source as him and looks like an impostor. I did say it is a person who looks like him but it is not him.
