Anti Abortion Efforts Based on Ignorance


When anti abortion advocates are unleashed with ignorance, nothing good happens. It happens because judges, politicians and anti abortion activists promote stupid ideas that locals swarm to like bees to honey.

Recently a woman, Tiffany Roberts, in Chattanooga, TN, was charged with first degree murder. Her bond was set at one million dollars. She had still born twins at about 23 weeks.

Ms. Roberts admitted she used some drugs. The fetuses showed the presence of drugs. She was charged with murdering the fetuses, first degree no less.

There was no proof that her drug use murdered the fetuses. About 15 to 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriages or fetuses born dead. Evidence that drug use or alcohol increases this percentage has not been forthcoming. How could prosecutors be certain Ms. Roberts drug use was not part of the 15-20% of unsuccessful pregnancies that happen regularly?

As a letter signed by 168 professionals in the field noted, The arrest assumes pregnant women can guarantee healthy outcomes and should be criminally liable if the do not....Outcomes are more likely the result of social and economic conditions of the woman than what she does or does not do when pregnant. 

 Miscarriages are more common among low income women. This indicates clearly that access to care increases the likelihood of a successful pregnancy.

The arrest and first degree murder charge against Tiffany Roberts indicates hatred of women is behind the anti abortion political operation.

Fortunately, the Prosecuting Attorney looked over the evidence and said he would not proceed with the case. All charges against Ms. Roberts were dropped.

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era.
