Another Preacher Prays that God Destroy Trump's Enemies

Two in a row is not an epidemic, but now a second media oriented preacher has asked God to destroy the President's enemies. I don't know if he got the idea from the famous Franklin Graham of not. Even though these are crazies, it's a little scary.

We have had some mass shooting which are claimed to be about an invasion of foreign and non white people. While I know praying for the destruction of a group is different than actually shooting them, it is unpleasant to hear God invoked as the source of power or approval to do this.

We all know religion has been a source of warfare since recorded history. For some reason, there have always been people willing to kill others over invisible gods. I'm sure it will go on forever.

Talk of a god protecting or defending a President is not quite the same but close to a President being a god. History has shown many leaders proclaiming themselves, or others proclaiming them, to be gods. Talk of God destroying the enemies of President Trump needs to have some justification besides his appointment of anti abortion Supreme Court Judges. Perhaps the justification is a Presidential deity.

There is some effort by other branches of the faith to claim those calling for harm to enemies is not the "true faith." But that is a difficult claim to make when all branches believe in invisible beings and bizarre ideas from ancient times.

We return again and again here to the age-old question, "Does religion do more good than harm?" It is not an easy question to answer.

  1. Re. the link; Just a couple more con artist politicians drawing in people to make money, on TV stage, and books, after loosing their compass and calling, (If they ever had one). As one person said; "I wouldn't piss in their mouth if their throat was on fire."

Jon; Just what do you refer to; ..."Bizarre ideas from the Middle Ages?

  2. "Jon; Just what do you refer to ?" Good question. I don't remember why I used the term "Middle Ages" so I changed it to ancient times. I've read that various things in the faith hark back to the Middle Ages instead of ancient but I don't want to get into that. I think it is common to identify the bizarre events and ideas of the Bible, Jesus as a god, the Resurrection, an afterlife, etc. as "ancient."

  3. To borrow a quote from Christopher Hitchens, “If you gave [Pastor Robert Henderson] an enema he could be buried in a matchbox.”.
