A Christian Philosopher Worries Liberal Christians Do Not Repent
One of the main Christian shticks is that everyone is a big sinner and the only escape from this is begging for forgiveness from "The Man", God. If one assumes there is sin, and further assumes escape is blocked by a guy with a flame thrower, one must pay the price.
An apparently popular book rings the alarm bell that liberal Christians are ignoring this blocked exit from sin. They are just sashaying passed the obstacle as if it is an imaginary one. The "mistaken" belief is the faith is about doing good for others. The "real" faith is about begging for forgiveness of "sins." People are mistaken, this book preaches. Liberal people think this forgiveness requirement is something from creative minds ad is not required by rational people.
Anyone who can look at Christianity from an arm's length distance can see it is filled with factions, each of which believes it is the only correct view of the faith. People deep in the faith cannot see this because they believe their's is the only legitimate version. The other versions are incorrect and thus not really in the faith.
The author above calls this incorrect view of Christianity the "Religion of Humanity." It's incorrect followers, he writes, believe they are Christian if they feed and house the poor. They must first repent of their sins before any good deed counts.
An article about people who require an abnormal control of others in Psychology Today it "They have a particular view of how things should happen and they do whatever the need to do to make sure events unfold in what they have determined is the right way." One view expressed often by atheists I know is that the Bible describes a method of controlling the less fortunate masses.
If liberal Christians continue to believe they do not need to repent, they will have one thing in common with President Trump. They will also be out of control and the faith cannot tolerate this.

same old: you can't discuss anything Christian without mocking it. not good. that said, who is the philosopher that you are talking about?
ReplyDeleteIs the word "book" in the second paragraph blue on your screen? If it is, click on it with your mouse and a discussion of the book, author, etc. should come up
