A New Theory About a Fake Jesus

There are lots of theories as to why the Jesus character in the Bible story was not an actual person but one created by myth. An interesting new one has come up which compares the areas attacked by soldiers of Emperor Titus Flavius as recorded by ancient historian Josephus and shows Christianity and military conquest traveled together.

In a new book, Caesar's Messiah: The Roman Conspiracy to Invent Jesus, an author tells us the goal of the Romans was to keep slaves productive and happy. The Bible, he says, was written by 1st Century Roman Aristocrats. I have said here often the Bible had to have been written by the most wealthy of the time because literacy was unusual.

Romans thought the Jews were problematic. They were so fervent they converted people who then began to complain about Roman. Romans figured if they could twist the Jewish dogma into something more peaceful and compliant those from whom they wanted to collect taxes from would be more cooperative. The new version of Judaism was, "Don't fight back. Turn the other cheek."

Creating fictional characters is as old as story telling itself. Today social media is alive with some fictional celebrity who has over a million subscribers. I've listed here on previous blogs a long list of famous "historical figures" who, so far as anyone can tell never existed.

I don't go quite as far as this author declaring I know there was no Jesus and also know why one was invented. What can be said is there is not strong independent evidence a Jesus existed. We know full well the Bible was written by wealthy people and if we know anything about wealthy people they seek to protect their wealth and status.

That there is no independent evidence of a historical Jesus and that his existence is based on story telling by very wealthy people leads me to be open minded there may never have been such a person.

  1. you probably won't post this comment. suffice to say, however, this is conspiracy stuff, right up there with the Grassy Knoll , Roswell , Area 51, Bigfoot, etc. And maybe while you are at it and for our edification you could, once again, list all those "historical figures who never existed.

  2. "List all the historical figures that never existed." I've done that a few times. Maybe it predates your time on the page. It's amazing. There are a lot of Betty Crockers out there. On not posting some comments, I explained a year or two ago I was not posting "Lindgren, you're jerk" comments. There have been perhaps hundreds of those so what purpose do it serve to add more? Yesterday you posted a "Jinix you are a jerk" comment. You and others have made many of those posts about her over time so I didn't see the point. The comment policy will be a little different now that I'm the site administrator, I was not on The Skrive.
