Like Apostle Paul This Preacher Communicates With the Dead


An Atlanta church has added a Pastor who is referred to as a Psychic. This Pastor says she has a gift of this skill and it was passed down from her African heritage. Talking to the dead no doubt will make many contemporary Christians roll their eyes. Yet, most probably believe Paul in the Bible actually talked to a dead Jesus.

It's impossible for me the believe this lady communicates with the dead. I do not think anyone should believe Paul did either. If we had a third party that we could verify such things we might consider them to be something other than myth.

This pastor alluded to her African heritage. I read a long article about African rituals at death. Of course they vary from place to place but in a least some areas there is not a clear distinction between life and death. The dead person may come back into his/her home and cause trouble. Sometimes the dead are removed through a hole in a wall instead of through a door. The hole in the wall is then repaired there is no longer a hole. This is done to confuse the dead person if he wants to return.

This is a version of life after death but it does not seem to be a reward like the Christian version. Both, however, share the same myth-like quality. I know there are groups on the African continent who do not believe in this hocus pocus just like there are atheists in the West. I corresponded with a group in Africa who do not believe in anything supernatural.

That there would be a marriage of African and U.S. mythologies in a Christian church is not all that surprising. What is always surprising are the millions of people who keep on believing these myths there is some kind of life after we are stone cold dead.

So much about U.S. society and religion can be learned from the Civil War and what happened afterwards. After its defeat, the South started a myth about the unethical soldiers from the North. The South fought for principles of God and states rights. The North did not. It was the South, this propaganda told the country, that had the high moral ground.  The Capitol invaders, encouraged by Trump, swallowed the myth that Biden's election was stolen. Thus, they think they held and still hold the high moral ground. This was reinforced by the cross and prayers during the invasion. Father Frank Pavone, the Ultimate Crook

Recently, the Vatican defrocked Frank Pavone. His diehard fans are outraged. This is because he cleverly manipulated his fans and the press all the while living well from donations and, apparently, abusing some women. By making abortion the "sin" of the century, and himself the main opposition to this one sin, he himself could get away with any sin he pleased.  As the link points out, Pavone was the perfect priest for the Trump era.
