News: Shutting Down Government Heralds the Second Coming

A caller on a talk show recently cheered shutting down the government as a sign of the second coming of Jesus. There is one way to avoid or delay the second coming. It is to build President Trump's wall.

The second coming is one of the best news stories ever. It is replayed most every year by a new sales person. And, it sells commercial advertising on TV and radio.

According to those who wrote the Bible, Jesus thought the world would end in his lifetime. If that idea sold well then, why would it not sell well today?

There were those who thought the election of President Trump was a sign the end was near. Now, it is the government shut down. It will be something else in the near future.

Singer and song writer Bob Dylan once said the secret to writing a popular song is to imply the song writer or singer knows something you do not and it is something you wish you knew. Perhaps that is why his song with the words, "...the answer is blowin' in the wind.." remains a classic.

The end of the world/second coming is like that. It hints the person saying that knows something deep and secretive. If you hear it, you lean forward wanting to know the secret as well.

As I understand it, some kind of chaos is supposed to precede the second coming. A government shutdown is a little chaotic. But it doesn't affect most people and those in other countries have never heard of it.

I'm requesting that those who believe the world is about to end give all their money to atheists.

  2. Yes, it's nonsense. But it makes a point, I think, about religion. The Bible is full of stuff that is every bit nonsense as this guy. Jesus thought the world would end in his lifetime. Nonsense. Paul said he talked to Jesus personally after Jesus was long dead. Nonsense. In the New Testament graves emptied and out walked skeletons that had been dead for hundreds of years. Tell me none of the above is nonsense.
