What Causes Mass Extinction

No one with a bent for science denies mass extinctions have occurred on Mother Earth. If they have happened in the past it is logical to expect they will happen in the future.

It would be logical to look for reasons these mass extinctions occurred because the next one may involve humans. Some creatures much like humans have existed for about 300,000 years. Only 10,000 years ago what we now call the Red River Valley of the North was a huge glacier. Apparently, some people survived along the east coast of Canada by living off the sea.

It seems to me our skill in the written word developed mostly less than 10,000 years ago, more recently the printing press and computer along with religion has distracted us from the most important question facing humans. That question is how can humans survive through the next mass extinction?

The link does not claim to know specifically how these mass extinctions happened. But it suggests we need to spend lots of resources figuring out what caused them and how we might avoid becoming extinct ourselves.

Here is one of many questions: Which is more important, trying to avoid extinction of human beings or making moral judgments about gay marriage? We could ask the same thing about abortion. Or, we could wonder if we should spend our resources arguing about which of the world's largest religions are "true"?

If humans are made extinct none of the questions about religion will have mattered.

  2. "BTW your link to your new blogsite does not work."

Thanks. I changed that post and put the link in the embedded word "here". Hopefully, that will work. It's been a project to learn how to work two different sites in a few weeks. I think the new site has more potential for the long run so I'm investing some effort to get it up and working.
