Two Catholic Freight Trains Headed Toward Each Other
It's like the ancients who wrote the Bible were designing a video game. They said, "Wouldn't it be fun to have two freight trains with no brakes on a collision course where everyone will be killed unless one or the other group does something it thinks it can't do?"
In real life, one of these trains is the human need for sex. We all know sex is needed for humans to survive. It is "natural law." The sex drive is mostly between the two sexes but it takes other forms such as homosexuality and attraction to children.
There has never been a successful way to eliminate this desire for sex. It is dealt with by laws and social norms. It remains as strong in the heads of men who enter the Catholic clergy as it is in the lay community. We all know the history of clergy who have failed in celibacy. That train carrying sexual desire keeps barreling down the track. It has no brakes. Failure in celibacy will go on forever.
On the other track are the rules of the church. That includes demands that they be enforced. A recent version is that the church "reform" but not change it rules on celibacy or homosexual attraction. The Pope is caught with conservative Cardinals left over from the previous Popes. The train carrying religious dogma is had no brakes either. It is headed toward the train carrying sin.
A better metaphor would allow a crash. There would be a solution. But, there is none. Instead, the trains are millions of miles apart and rolling on forever.
The Marcils alone are responsible for the religious bigotry authored by Jon Lindgren to be published and monetized by the Fargo Forum. The violate their own community standards.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to the issue of violating community standards the catholic church is hard to beat. Never mind the colluding with fascists and abetting the mafia, the centuries of child rape and abuse set an appalling standard of criminal behavior, that, if perpetrated by a non-religious organization, would most likely have resulted in its disbandment, and the jailing of its leaders.
DeleteBeasec, when you stop foaming at the mouth you should go see a physician or a vet.
DeleteMatt, you provide no evidence of any bigotry on Jon’s part. All you got are the rants of Trump rally political correctness
Delete7+ years of non-stop criticism of things the Catholic Church and Christian churches are not even guilty of while completely ignoring the faults of atheists, etc.
DeleteNow tell me, if a man spoke ill of Black people, Hispanic people or homosexuals daily for 7+ years, what kind of bigot would YOU call him?
Thanks for your comment, Matt. It seems to me, however, to be internally inconsistent. If community standards require diverse views such as mine to increase readership and thus revenue, then publishing my views is conforming to community standards not violating them. Kudos to the Marcils.
ReplyDeleteThe Marcils alone are responsible for the religious bigotry authored by the inane Roxane Salonen, Jon Hauser, and John Folda, whose photo alone could trigger PTSD responses in masses of the population. They are also responsible for the 2 or 3 times daily drum beating of the uneducated misogynist Rob Port, the anti-science Heritage Foundation shill Bette Grande and occasional dog whistles of the idiot libertarian (neo-confederate) Ross Nelson.
ReplyDeleteSomething for everyone to hate.

DeleteThat's five Christian crusaders to one freethinker. To Matt, the only fair ratio is five to zero. Then, he will say from time to time Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world. Go figure.
Jon loves a hatefest. So does the Devil. They both like to start them.
DeleteRoxanne is a wonderful woman. Bishop John Folda is a wonderful Bishop. Although I don't know Jon Hauser, his columns are benign and complimentary to the subject matter. Bette Grand is a wonderful woman. Rob Port is so factual and insightful I think he deserves to be called an investigative journalist rather than a columnist.
Those that regularly trash everything normal or conservative in sight are Jim Shaw, Jane Ahlin, Steve Stark, Jack Zaleski, Jon Lindgren, every Washington Post "story" and the crazy letters to the editor from the liberal letter-writing camp.
John Bender is no conservative but he is not acidic like the aforementioned. Ross Nelson is also a breath of fresh air.
What I see from the normal and conservative is generally positive, uplifting text. It calls on mankind's greater elements. Rob Port can be very tough on Heidi but nothing he write is untrue or undeserved. Meanwhile, the far left writers pointed above are damning, mean-spirited and always on the rampage.
Community standards? Read what the Forum used to publish as community standards and they have violated all of them.
What is also indisputable is that Jon Lindgren and Matt Noah do not hide behind fake names when they post on this blog.
DeleteSuch boring rants, Matt. Have you no substance?
DeleteTalkman, why hide behind a fake name and fake information?
DeleteGood does not require the inclusion of evil to be diverse.
ReplyDeleteNormal does not require the inclusion of deviant to be diverse.
If Catholic-hating, Christian-hating and religion-hating is required in order to be diverse, then why not publish the pro-pedophilia views, the pro-rape views, etc.
It is clear the Marcils have either lost their way or embrace your hateful views.
The Catholic Church does not seek the elimination for the beautiful desire for sex.
ReplyDeleteIf the Catholic Church's understanding of sex is properly understood and lived out rather than what people perceive it to mean they would discover that the beauty of sex and the expression of it find its fullest meaning as ordered properly towards its Creator namely God. Now, if one considers themselves to be "atheist" and denies the existence of a Creator namely God, then the world's understanding of the beautiful meaning of sex and its fullest expression is determined by each individual person (Relativistic, right?).
The two real train tracks colliding: On one track: The beauty of sex and its fullest expression as ordered properly towards its Creator, namely God; On the other track, sex and and its various expressions as defined by the world and each individual person.
There will always be men who fail to live out their call to celibacy just as there are married couples or spouses who do not remain faithful to their spouses by committing sexual infidelities. This does not mean every priest or married couple or spouse seeking fidelity to their vocation will fail. Those who are living out the beautiful gift of celibacy discover a deeper capacity for loving themselves and other people in a non-sexual way just as married couple/spouses discover a deeper capacity for loving one another with a love that is both, sexual and non-sexual, permanent and exclusive.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
"The Catholic Church does not seek the elimination for the beautiful desire for sex."
DeleteNO. Like all cults, it corrupts normal sexual desire to use as an ugly weapon to control and manipulate people. Original sin, subservient women, victim shaming, opposing birth control, sex only within heterosexual marriage to create another, larger generation to increase the wealth and political power of the church. Religions must oppose any expression of sexuality outside of the one variant they control and from which their power is derived. The resultant repression increases obsessive behavior rather than controlling it. Studies show increases in unprotected sex, unplanned pregnancies, STD's, and yes, even the sexual abuse of children.
The results of the church's fundamental immorality and abusive behavior is predictable and can no longer be hidden or denied. Religion has no claim to any moral authority. None.
Why respond to anonymous posters not brave enough to be associated with their own words? New policy- ignore thrm.
DeleteJon, I thought of sending this to you through a private email address but couldn't locate one for you. I hope you take time to read this. http://trpost.blogspot.com/2018/08/an-open-letter-to-jon-lindgren.html
ReplyDeleteT.R. Post 4:26 Thanks for this post and for your essay about me in Blogspot. I left a response there. I'll give a short version for readers here. First, the term "freethinker" does not necessarily refer to what we call being "open minded." It refers to people who do their own study, develop their own views and do not necessarily accept the views of authorities, religious or secular. Second, if a "Jesus" appeared I would want to know why this person was more a "Jesus" than the thousands of others who make that claim. Further, I would want to know how it was established this "Jesus" is the same one talked of in the Bible. All this would be necessary for a freethinker to become a Christian.
DeleteI clicked so you don't have to. Typical amateur street preacher apologist nonsense and projection.
DeleteYou just need to find the one true church, the devil is real and messing with you, atheists are temporarily angry at god because of a misunderstanding, miracles are real, god is waiting for you.
The combination of ignorance, fear, superstition and arrogance is blinding. Embracing these fantasies is a coping mechanism for their own issues that they then believe apply to everyone. Psychotic breaks are real, zero evidence of any supernatural powers anywhere ever.
