How Many Times Will the Warning Go Unheeded

The most important whistle blower of sex abuse among Catholic clergy died recently at the age of 85. He correctly predicted back in the early 2000's that about 6% of Catholic clergy practiced some kind of sexual abuse. Further, he said, the dishonesty about sexual abstinence contributed to the dishonesty about pedophilia.

According to the link, the priest took confession from other priests and was astounded by how many were not celibate. When, several years later, he left the priesthood and married he began doing research on the frequency of priests living double lives. Experience has shown his predictions of child abuse charges were accurate.

His view was that child abuse became too common because of cheating on celibacy. He thought the common practice of dishonesty on celibacy put in place a culture of dishonesty that spread into child abuse and then to hiding of child abuse by Bishops. Linking child abuse to cheating on celibacy is his own opinion and not a fact. However, if cheating on celibacy is as widespread as he claimed one has to wonder how far such dishonesty can spread. Certainly if having sex outside of a pledge of celibacy is a sin and priests are preaching against sin you have to wonder who would listen to them.

All of this brings up the peculiar Catholic belief in "natural law". If humans possess a sex drive as a part of their nature, why would Catholic clergy, and the public they serve, be better off by clergy who never have sex? It seems contrary to "natural law."

The sex scandal now being made public in Pennsylvania looks to be one of the biggest one yet. Many Catholics are of the view sex scandals have prevented by new policies.

The impression one gets from reading the news is that there is no end to the scandals of priests harming children and Bishops covering for them. How long will it be before real steps are taken to bring this under control?

  1. The catholic church claims it is the moral guardian for its people, if the above article (news report from the PA Grand Jury Investigation) demonstrates their interpretation of such a lofty claim then the church will destroy itself.

I believe Richard Sipe was also an expert witness and testified in clergy abuse cases AND he was a former priest.

Groups of priests engaging in S & M rituals with alter boys and then taking their naked photos with "blessed" crosses that mark them as participants for other priests to abuse is enough to induce vomiting.

Priests forcing girls who they got pregnant to have an abortion is sinister mockery of the pious sermons they give on Sunday and one could say the bishops, archbishops, cardinals and the pope are aiding and abetting the devil they warn against.... Heck, some of the unholy hierarchy participate!!!!

What these children experienced was darkness from which nightmares spring from, some never emerged from this darkness but others eventually did and they carry the memories of what was done to them for the rest of their lives.

If anything comes out of the Pennsylvania trail it is that the Catholic church is run by people with moral values no better than the average Joe or Jane walking the streets.
