Anti Abortion Political Theater; Where you Will Not See It
Anti abortion protesters perform political theater by pretending to pray and complaining that a fertilized human egg is a "baby" or a "human being." You will see this almost exclusively at women's clinics. There are other places fertilized cells are destroyed but protesters are not there. I'll explain why.
There are about one million frozen "human beings" stored in businesses that keep these embryos because couples might want one or two later. Some of these couples get divorced or die. During the divorce proceedings, the logical question comes up, "How owns this embryo? If is implanted back into a woman, who is financially responsible if a child is born?" Since the father most often makes money more than the mother, men are often awarded custody of the cells. Often the men want them destroyed rather than pay two decades of child support should a fetus becomes a baby. Judges regularly allow them to be destroyed.
Protesters, so far as I know, seldom if ever do their political theater in front of judges' chambers or in front of these storage facilities. They do not call the judges "murderers" like the do in front of abortion clinics. Nor do they perform theatrical praying.
Anti abortion protesters go after to the most vulnerable and the group least able to defend itself, young women. They avoid men who order destruction of their fertilized cells because they are more intimidating. The avoid judges who approve destruction of these cells because who wants to mess with a judge?
Making their argument before the most powerful is intimidating. Screaming at the most vulnerable is what anti abortion protesters like the most.
AMEN
ReplyDeleteSo true. Christianity at its most hypocritical.
ReplyDeleteThere’s an interesting article in the new New Scientist magazine. Studies now show that women in their 20s have as many miscarriages as live births (most occurring before the woman knows she is pregnant), and as women age that number rises dramatically. So perhaps the right-to-strife folks should be protesting in front of their churches.
DeleteAccording to the current New Scientist, for women in their 20s half of all pregnancies result in miscarriage, often before the woman even knows she is pregnant. Therefore, shouldn’t the anti’s be protesting their god in front of their churches?
ReplyDeleteI had protesters in front of my house years ago. They had a couple of signs, "Lindgren is a murderer." A sign "God is a murderer"? Makes sense.
ReplyDeleteArgentina's legislature voted to keep abortion illegal on a 38-31 vote. How did the pro-abortion left react in Argentina? Robbing, firebombing businesses and rioting. I seem to recall Jon proclaiming almost certain victory in Argentina in front of the vote. Catholic bashing in 3-2-1 ...
ReplyDeleteI did think Argentina would go to allow abortions. I think if there was a popular vote abortion rights would win. But, is it all over in Argentina? As they say, "We'll see."
DeleteMany women and doctors in Argentina do not know its now allow many abortions. From Wikipedia "In March 2007, Buenos Aires Province health authorities released a protocol addressing the provision of legal abortion procedures without delays or need for judicial authorization. The main change regarding previous treatments of abortion was the explicit recognition that any case of rape can be a threat to the psychic health of the victim and thus justify an abortion request.[21]"
DeletePolls in Argentina show majority support for abortion on demand.
From your past comments you don't think it matters if it is legal or illegal. You think the abortion rate is the same, regardless of its legality. Then, why care if it is illegal? Why riot, vandalize and incinerate?
ReplyDeleteMatt--it's not that "I think" the abortion rate is the same. All studies conclude it it the same. Maybe you are admitting it too. So the more logical question is why have laws against something if they use tax money chasing violators but are unsuccessful at convicting them.
ReplyDeleteI firmly believe that taxing something or criminalizing something will cause it to be less common. Most rational people think the same. The first thing that will happen if abortion (murder) is made illegal is that the supply of abortionists (physicians who commit and collect for abortion) will dry up overnight. "Clinics" will close overnight. Nine months later, the birth rate will spike.
DeleteMatt 8:38 "I firmly believe that ... criminalizing something will cause it to be less common...if abortion is made illegal ..the supply of abortionists will dry up overnight. "Clinics" will close overnight. Nine months later the birthrate will spike."
DeleteThis certainly has not been the experience in countries which have outlawed abortions. The statistical fertility rate has remained unchanged. In the U.S. there would be changes no doubt. Licensed clinics would close.
Among some populations there would be more births. In some countries where abortions became illegal governments did not have the money or political support to enforce the law. So "illegal" abortions moved to doctors and hospitals where they would not be prosecuted. Poor people now have less access, prosperous are unaffected. The number of births per 1000 women overall has not changed statistically, higher in rural areas, lower in cities.
The only country where considerable public money is spent enforcing anti abortion laws is little and poor El Salvador. There the tax dollars to enforce are spent in the poorest rural areas where people do not have lawyers. The teen pregnancy rate is the highest in the world. The highest cause of deaths among pregnant teen girls is suicide. All this from "Her Body, Our Laws; On the Front Lines of the Abortion War, from El Salvador to Oklahoma" by Michelle Oberman, 2018.
