We're (just) Not in Kansas Anymore, Women are Registering to Vote Nationally

A political consultant who plots numbers from many sources says he has never seen what he is seeing now. He was blind-sided by the Kansas vote to preserve abortion rights. Now he is astounded by the numbers of women showing up in voter registration across the country.

He points out something that was little understood before. There is a big difference between "We are going to outlaw abortion" and an actual decision to outlaw abortion. The decision changed the number of voters and how they vote.

As an aside, there are bloggers like myself who are certain there will never be a second coming. Or, if there were such a crazy thing, most of the public would laugh it off. That is because an actual person appearing as "God" has happened many times--people blow it off. Yet, many of these same people think fondly of the "return of Jesus" in their religious lives where they are free to imagine it in whatever way it provides them pleasure.

It is being noted everywhere how many staunch forced-birth advocates in politics are back peddling about just how punitive they are toward women. "Gosh, I love women. They must not go to jail." Those politicians have read the same thing I have read. A few days ago the famous Sarah Palin was defeated in a special election in Alaska by a woman, Mary Peltola, who put her prochoice position on her campaign website for all to see. Trump carried Alaska by 10% in 2020. This was for Alaska's only House seat. Using the ranked choice system of voting, Peltola received over 50%, defeating both her anti-abortion opponents. In a few months the seat will be voted upon again, all three are expected to run.

I read that once years ago Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg said abortion rights would be more secure if they had come to the U.S. via state-by-state decisions. It seems to me abortion rights should be the standard of the entire country. Yet, some years from now it may turn out that enough states have endorsed abortion rights to make it even more secure than it was under Roe.
