Is it Possible the Satanic Temple Will Establish Abortion Rights
It seems so unlikely but yet inevitable. I'm talking about using religion to justify acts that are the most unreligious to some religions. It could be that once the barn door opens a crack all the cows will escape. The Satanic Temple is claiming abortion is a religious ritual and must be allowed under the banner of freedom of religion.
One need only look at the Wicca religion. Where it came from is disputable. One book, which was not written by someone known to be knowledgeable about the topic, was so appealing it started a religion that almost never existed before. I think it could be said Christianity was just as "laughable" at its birth as any new religion is today. Once one religion enters the world of law and economics there are going to be a lot more of them.
It's easy to say religions that come out of "nowhere" and become popular are frauds and will be crowded out by clear thinking. Experience does not support this. Instead, it tells us the most bizarre of ideas may take hold and move into the mainstream of human thinking.
It is said by several Biblical scholars today the Jesus character of the Bible was not well know nor an important force in events while he walked around preaching. Neither was he a big force when he was claimed to be killed by the Roman government. And, he was not well known for many years after that.
He became well known several years later when a myth began circulating that he had become back to life after being dead. This was the ticket to fame. That no one saw him come back to life but stories about seeing him circulated made it a "fact" in minds then as it does today.
To say it is impossible for a Satanic group to be successful in claiming to be a religion seems like a bad bet. If it is not this one it may be some other. It is almost that the more bizarre the story the more likely it will be perceived as a true historical event. What story could Satanist come up with that is more bizarre than symbolically drinking the blood and eating the flesh of the holy man?
It would strike me as bizarre to claim an abortion is a religious ceremony. But, with a bizarre ceremony of drinking blood why not one about abortion?

ReplyDeleteLaughable yes, but maybe not this one (1). It is possible the nascent “Church of QAnon” will eventually find its way into the world of law. Several QAnon supporting candidates are running for office this November and finding encouragement from Trump and some sitting members of Congress.
Abortion as a religious ceremony seems a bit less bizarre along side the hanging, strangling, beheading, and burning of innocent women for witchcraft by medieval Christianity as sanctioned in verse 22:16 of Exodus (KJV); “Thou shall not suffer a witch to live.” Today’s anti-abortion campaign sanctioned by Christianity has some of same misogynistic flavor. Some just cannot cease and desist.

no comment. except to say that is so stupid that it does not warrant the time and effort required to compose a rebuttal.

DeleteYou’re welcome. We all have other things to do.

ReplyDeleteThe way I see it, most anyone can justify most anything by quoting the Bible. Society's problems start there.
